A new development has emerged in Guangzhou's downtown duty-free shop project, with four state-owned enterprises announcing a joint operation recently. The duty-free shop will sell tax-exempt goods such as liquor and food.
The Nansha International Cruise Terminal will establish a pickup point in the port's outbound area, allowing consumers to "shop in-store and pick up at the port." This initiative stems from an official statement issued in August 2024 to boost duty-free shopping in China.
It specifies the establishment of downtown duty-free shops in eight cities, including Guangzhou. With the growth in inbound and outbound travelers, downtown duty-free shops are poised to play a significant role in promoting consumption.
