The opening ceremony of the 15th National Games, the 12th National Games for Persons with Disabilities (NGD), and the 9th National Special Olympic Games (NSOG) will be hosted by Guangzhou, said Zhu Xiaoyi, deputy director of the Guangzhou Organizing Committee on March 20.
The Guangzhou Organizing Committee of the 15th National Games, the 12th NGD and the 9th NSOG held a press conference to introduce the preparations for the event to the public.
Zhu said that the Guangzhou Organizing Committee is headquartered at the Guangzhou Tianhe Sports Center. There are a total of 25 venues in the Guangzhou competition area. The construction of the venues is green, low-carbon, and smart. Guangzhou will host 40 percent of the 15th National Games and 30 percent of the Paralympic Games. It is the city that hosts the largest number of events among Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macao.
The venues in the Guangzhou competition area include the Guangdong Olympic Sports Center, Guangdong People's Stadium, Guangdong Gymnasium, Tianhe Sports Center, Yuexiu Mountain Stadium, Nansha Stadium, etc. The renovation of the Guangzhou Gymnasium started at the end of February this year.
